Keep it simple
Your pantry.
Your kitchen.
Your kind of meal.
You don’t need a fully stocked kitchen to get started. A few ingredients and a manageable first step can go a long way.
Take a look at what’s there
Start with 3–7 foods from your cupboard, fridge, or pantry bag. Look for something that needs using soon, then add staples like beans, rice, or oats.
Work with your kitchen
Have a microwave but no oven? Choose a microwave idea. No cooking access? Start with a no-cook meal. Use only equipment you have available.
Make it yours. Save what’s left.
Swap in a vegetable you already have, keep seasoning mild, or make a smaller portion. Plan how to store any leftovers before you finish cooking.
A little inspiration
Something good is already here.

The warm & easy one
1 serving · About 15 minutes · Microwave
Use ½ cup drained canned beans, ½ cup frozen vegetables, and one single-serving portion of microwave rice. You’ll need a microwave-safe bowl and a loose-fitting microwave-safe cover.
- Prepare the rice according to its package instructions.
- Put the beans and vegetables in the bowl with a splash of water. Cover loosely. Heat in short intervals, stirring carefully, until steaming hot throughout. Follow the vegetable package’s cooking instructions.
- Stir in the rice. Add a little seasoning if you like. Let it cool enough to eat.
Make it yours: Use chickpeas instead of beans. Check packaged ingredients and seasonings for allergens.
Save for later: Refrigerate promptly in a shallow container within 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F. Use refrigerated leftovers within 3–4 days and reheat to 165°F.
The no-cook one
Chickpea crunch wrap
Canned chickpeas + tortilla + crunchy vegetables
1 serving · About 10 minutes · No cooking needed
Use ½ cup drained canned chickpeas, 1 tortilla, and ½ cup washed, chopped cucumber or carrot. You’ll need a bowl and fork.
- Mash the chickpeas with a fork. Add a little water or oil to soften them if needed.
- Spread onto the tortilla and add the vegetables.
- Fold into a wrap. Season to taste.
Easy swap: Use canned white beans. Tortillas may contain wheat; check labels for allergens.
Waste less: Make only what you’ll eat. Refrigerate extra filling within 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F, and use within 3–4 days.
